Stone pine from the Mediterranean region is also called the Umbrella Pine as it forms a flat topped tree with a shady canopy, like an umbrella.It's nuts are harvested for edible pine nuts and with fire resistant bark and resin that is used to make turpentine and for medicinal purposes as an antiseptic.
 
They prefer a sandy loam soil that is slightly acidic in a sunny position. Grows 12m tall, 6m wide
